We prepare and submit your Border Area Permit application to the provincial police, collect the approved permit, and hand it to you when you pick up your bike. This is a service fee for handling the paperwork — the permit itself is issued by the Vietnamese authorities.

One permit does not cover both provinces.

A Ha Giang permit is not valid in Cao Bang. If you plan to ride the Loop and then continue east to Ban Gioc waterfall or Nguyen Binh, you need both. Police checkpoints on the plateau and near the falls do ask to see it, and riding without one can end your trip early.
