Travelling from Ha Giang to Sapa is one of the most common routes in northern Vietnam — and one of the least straightforward. How Long Does the Ha Giang to Sapa Bus Take?
Six hours for all three services. The distance is roughly 300km, but almost none of it is highway — the route crosses the mountains of Ha Giang and Lao Cai provinces on winding provincial roads, with a stop for food along the way.
If you are prone to motion sickness, this is a road to take seriously. The first two hours out of Ha Giang are the most winding. Sit toward the front, eat lightly beforehand, and bring tablets if you normally need them.
Day Bus or Night Bus — Which Should You Take?
09:00 departure — arrives Sapa around 15:00
Best if you want to see the scenery, and if you would rather not arrive in a new town after dark. You get the afternoon in Sapa to find your hotel and walk around. This is what most first-time visitors choose.
18:00 departure — arrives Sapa around midnight
Best if you finish a Ha Giang Loop tour in the afternoon and want to keep moving without losing a day. You save a night's accommodation, but arriving at midnight means arranging your hotel check-in in advance. Take the cabin bus, not the limousine, if you want to sleep properly.

13-seat Limousine — reclining seats, not beds. Faster to board, feels more like a minivan. Fine for the daytime run if you are happy sitting for six hours. The cheapest option at 350,000₫.
VIP 24-Cabin Bus — enclosed private cabins with a flat bed, curtain, light and charging point. Considerably more comfortable, and the only sensible choice for the evening departure. Solo travellers book a single cabin; couples can book a double cabin, which works out cheaper per person than two singles.

- September to March is peak season. Seats sell out days in advance, especially the VIP cabins. Message us to check availability before fixing your dates.
- Luggage is included. One large bag plus hand luggage per person, stored underneath.
- Shoes come off on the cabin bus. Standard on Vietnamese sleeper buses — bags are provided.
- There is one meal stop on the daytime run. Bring snacks and water regardless; options are limited.

Is there a direct bus from Ha Giang to Sapa?
Yes. All three of our daily services run direct, with one scheduled rest stop. You do not need to change vehicles or route through Hanoi.
How much is the bus from Ha Giang to Sapa?
From 350,000₫ (about $14) for the 13-seat limousine, or 400,000₫ (about $16) for a single cabin on the VIP sleeper bus. A double cabin is 620,000₫ for two people.
Can I take a night bus from Ha Giang to Sapa?
Yes — the 18:00 VIP cabin bus arrives in Sapa around midnight. Arrange your hotel check-in ahead of time, as most receptions in Sapa close late evening.
