Packing for the Ha Giang Loop can be tricky. You will be traveling through remote mountains, navigating winding roads, and experiencing changing weather conditions—all while needing to keep your luggage light and compact.
Whether you are riding with our Easy Riders or relaxing in our private SUVs, here is the ultimate local packing list from the HagiangTrips team.
1. Clothing: Layers Are Your Best Friend The weather in the mountains can shift quickly from hot and sunny to chilly and misty.
T-shirts & Long-sleeve shirts: Bring breathable fabrics for the daytime. (Plus, you will receive our exclusive HagiangTrips T-shirt when booking with us!).
A warm jacket or fleece: Essential for the evenings and high-altitude passes like Ma Pi Leng.
Pants/Shorts: Comfortable pants for riding and shorts for relaxing at the homestay.
Rain gear: A high-quality raincoat and waterproof pants (If you book an Easy Rider tour, we will provide this for you!).
2. Footwear & Accessories
Sturdy sneakers or trekking shoes: You will need good grip for walking around viewpoints and waterfalls. Avoid riding in sandals or flip-flops.
Sunglasses & Sunscreen: The mountain sun can be harsh.
A buff or face mask: To protect your face from dust and wind on the road.
3. Toiletries & Essentials While our accommodations provide basic amenities, you should pack:
Mosquito repellent and basic first-aid items (band-aids, stomach medicine).
A quick-dry towel (if you plan to swim in local waterfalls).
A universal power bank. You will be taking hundreds of photos, and you do not want your phone dying halfway through the spectacular Tu San Canyon!
4. Documents & Cash
Original Passport & Visa: This is mandatory. We need it to register your stay with the local border police.
International Driving Permit (IDP): If you plan to ride your own motorbike.
Vietnamese Dong (VND) in cash: While HagiangTrips accepts online payments for your tour balance, you will need cash for personal snacks, coffees, or local souvenirs along the route, as ATMs are rare in the villages.
What to LEAVE BEHIND (The Luggage Solution) Please do not bring massive, hard-shell suitcases on the Loop! It is dangerous and uncomfortable on motorbikes, and takes up too much space in SUVs.
Our Solution: Pack only what you need for 3-4 days into a small backpack (20L - 30L). You can securely leave your large suitcases and heavy luggage at HagiangTrips Hotel entirely for FREE while you enjoy your tour.
